Spirituality

"What is spirituality?" is a question that often comes into my mind.

Firstly, it makes me think about my beliefs. My belief in God, the Divine Source, the Infinite Being, the Universe - whatever it is that you want to name this supreme force which appears to regulate everything that is known to mankind.

I then think about the soul and how does my soul interact with my human body. And will my soul leave my human body when it dies? Is it the essence of who I am which transitions from one form to another in a manner that is already predetermined.

This brings me to the question - is spirituality = to religion; or is it an aspect of religion.

These are some of the questions I ask and have asked throughout my life. What is spirituality to you?

Since I was a little girl of 5 years - I have been having mystical experiences which I will put into the Divine basket.

When I was 5, I was sitting at the back of a tiny Methodist church. The sunlight was streaming through the open door and dust particles floating in the air were illuminated by the sun's rays. I watched in fascination.

The congregation was singing the song "The Royal Telephone" and I remember the joy that filled my little body as I listened to these words:

"Telephone to glory, oh, what joy divine! I can feel the current moving on the line, Built by God the Father for His loved and own, We may talk to Jesus through this royal telephone."

Now many years later, having experienced the ecstacy of God communion - I know this was my first ecstatic connection with God. Since that day, I have known that I could talk to God and that he would never leave me - if I felt betrayed, it was because I turned my back on him.

At 5 years of age, I began my seeking journey. I visited many churches, experienced many religions, became the devotee of a spiritual master and embrace all ways with tolerance and acceptance.

The Dalai Lama

In about 1992, His Holiness the Dalai Lama came to Brisbane, Australia. I was privileged to be able to attend this event. I went with a friend and we were seated at the top of the seating with a magnificent view of the whole room.

As His Holiness spoke about Love, the whole auditorium filled with the most beautiful pink light. As He spoke about Peace, the whole auditorium filled with the most glorious blue light. As He spoke on different subjects, the colour in the room changed in an amazing auric light show.

It was an incredible, ecstatic, tactile, visual experience of the Divine Source which I will never forget.

The teachings and demonstration of love and compassion of His Holiness the Dalai Lama have had a profound impact on my relationship with God and the way that I live my life.
